The Erie County Council finance chair gave the public a rundown on the county executive’s budget proposal on Friday.
Councilman Rock Copeland invited the community to discuss the county executive’s budget proposal at the Jefferson Educational Society on State Street.

Dozens of people listened as Copeland explained how the budget process works and where taxpayer money is proposed to be spent.
Copeland said that it can be tough to sift through over 600 pages of line items and see the big picture, but he does have some points of interest.

“We’ve been losing a lot of grants from other resources,” Copeland said. “Our local property taxes account for only 18% of our budget, so we rely very heavily on revenue from other sources. And, in many areas, we see a decline in those revenues, and that means we’re paying a larger share from our property taxes for lower services.”…
