River otter spotting at Presque Isle prompts slow down reminder from park

(WJET/WFXP) — Park officials at Presque Isle State Park are reminding parkgoers to watch out for some rarely-seen furry animals that have been photographed running across a park road.

Park officials shared a couple of photos of North American river otters scampering across the road and reminded drivers to watch their speed for the animals, who occasionally cross the road like so many others that live in the park

North American river otters can usually be found in the Presque Isle’s ponds, lagoons, and marshes, but can venture out from time to time looking for new feeding areas or mates, according to park officials.

The National Wildlife Federation said river otters can grow three to four feet long while weighing between 11 and 30 pounds, adding that the males tend to be a little larger…
