Five-year-old girl takes first steps with prosthetic leg

Through hard work and determination, a five-year-old girl took her very first steps with the help of Shriners Children’s Erie.

Joy was born with a rare condition in which the bones in her lower leg did not fully form.

The 5-year-old girl recently underwent an amputation of her left leg, but now she’s taking her very first steps using a prosthetic leg.

A video capturing the moment surpassed more than 30,000 views on social media, and Hannah Clark, Joy’s prosthetist, said she was even able to customize her prosthetic with her favorite musical artist.

“Joy, her name couldn’t be any more appropriate for the little girl that she is. She’s been through a lot,” Clark said. “We want Joy’s life and experiences of firsts to be as close to everybody else as possible. And then, on top of that, she’ll have a cooler leg than anyone else in her class.”…
