Thousands come from near and far for Pittsburgh’s Light Up Night

Visitors wearing pom beanies thronged Seventh Street and Penn Avenue in Downtown on Saturday in anticipation of Highmark’s Light Up Night, part of Pittsburgh’s 64th annual holiday celebration.

And they crowded into PPG Place to watch skaters spin on the ice to Christmas music and tunes from “Wicked.” As afternoon turned to evening, pink clouds brushed the sky and threw reflections against the glass at PPG place.

It was all part of the festivities marking the start of the holiday season in Pittsburgh, including the lighting of the ice rink’s tree, which will remain illuminated for the rest of the year…
