Barber National Institute students cook Thanksgiving dinner in new adaptive kitchen

This week, millions of Americans will sit down for another Thanksgiving dinner, but getting food from the oven to the plate may be easier said than done.

On Monday, students at the Barber National Institute’s Elizabeth Lee Black School learned how to make all the Thanksgiving classics in their new adaptive kitchen, giving them the skills they need to succeed in the kitchen and beyond.

“They learn a lot more than you might expect, so a wide variety of skills, not just the cooking part, but waiting their turn, taking turns with peers, how to use the different tools, how to follow instructions, a lot of different skills they get to work on down here, plus have fun” said Amanda Schleicher, occupational therapist at Barber National Institute…
