(WJET/WFXP)– The Thanksgiving smells will have a lot of pets begging for food this Thursday and one local veterinarian gave some tips on what not to feed your pets at dinnertime.
One doctor at the ANNA Wellness Center said pet owners should avoid giving their dogs and cats turkey skins, buttery foods, and bones from the table this holiday.

While she said it’s almost never a good idea to feed your pet from the table. If you do choose to give your pet some scraps, she said to stick with the low-fat foods like corn and green beans, and avoid buttery foods at all costs.
“Thanksgiving is known as the pancreatitis bonanza in veterinary medicine, lots of vomiting, lots of diarrhea, lots of foreign bodies for the reasons listed previously,” said Dr. Sarah Zeigler, a veterinarian at the ANNA Wellness Center West.

Dr. Zeigler said if your pet does get hold of something they shouldn’t, monitor them for vomiting and diarrhea, and if symptoms persist after 24 hours, call an emergency veterinarian…
