The One-Year Anniversary of Snomageddon and Reminders

As the one-year anniversary of the one-of-a-kind Thanksgiving snowstorm comes and goes, there was one man who saw it all unfold.

Assistant Director of Public Works Jeff Gibbens stated the storm was a rare combination of fast-falling, heavy snow and unlike many cities, Erie also faced major challenges with parking and street access.

Gibbens shared that another major hurdle came from the number of abandoned cars left along the roads. He says crews ended up towing around 100 vehicles, something he described as unlike anything the department had handled before…
