Erie gas prices drop, still above state and national averages

There’s good news for drivers in Erie: gas prices are continuing to fall. According to AAA, the average price for a gallon in Erie has dropped several cents this week, giving some commuters relief for holiday travel.

The current average in Erie is $3.23. Now, that is still higher than the Pennsylvania and national averages. However, it is still 13 cents lower than the Erie average a month ago.

Lynda Lambert is the media spokesperson for AAA East Central. She said that many factors determine why Pennsylvania is still above the national average.

“First and foremost is crude oil, that accounts for more than 50% of the cost of a gallon of gas,” Lambert said. “But there’s also taxes, distribution and marketing, which can vary widely state by state.”…
