Rising House Fires in Erie Linked to Space Heaters

With winter weather here to stay, Erie Fire Marshals are reminding residents to take precautions when using space heaters. Officials report that approximately three house fires occur each year in Erie due to space heaters plugged into extension cords a practice they warn is never safe.

“No extension cord, regardless of quality or price, should be used with a space heater,” fire officials emphasized.

To reduce fire risks, residents are urged to follow these safety guidelines plug space heaters directly into a wall outlet, maintain at least three feet of clearance around the unit in all directions, and never leave a space heater running unattended…
