Ice Rescue Incident Urges Safety Protocol Reminder

LCFC crews were dispatched this morning to assist McKean Hose Company on a water rescue after reports of a person falling through the ice while attempting to save their dog.

Initially, McKean Hose was called for a dog that had gone through the ice. The dog managed to escape safely, but during the rescue attempt, an individual entered the water and became trapped. Fortunately, the person was able to get out on their own as emergency units were on route.

This incident serves as an important reminder. No ice is safe, especially for pets. If your pet falls through the ice or becomes stranded, do not attempt to rescue them yourself. Instead, call 911 immediately. Emergency responders are trained for these situations and equipped to handle them safely. While waiting for help, you can assist from shore using a long stick, rope, or leash, but never enter the water…
