The Silver Creek-Forestville Unified Sports team combined to be one of the top fundraising teams in the annual Special Olympics Buffalo Polar Plunge. A total of 64 people from both schools participated in last week’s event at Woodlawn Beach and raised $13,100. It was the most of any fundraising team from Chautauqua County and fifth place overall. This marked the sixth consecutive year the two schools have been involved in the polar plunge.
Silver Creek Youth Advisory Committee advisor and Unified Sports coach Janet Decker says, “Each year, we strive to raise more than the last year. Even though we are two small schools, combined we are still smaller than other schools in the area. The fact that we can raise over $13,000 in the past two years and over $50,000 in the past six years, just shows the heart of the students, staff and community from our districts to support our students and Special Olympics New York.”
