It’s quite a process for a church to be repurposed. The churches are parish property and the pastor must write to the bishop to request the change. He also must provide sufficient evidence for the change. From there, the bishop will go to the priest council and they will make a decision and the bishop will deliver that back to the pastor. Then it’s up to the parish about what they want to do with the building.
According to Bishop Lawrence Perisco of the Erie Catholic Diocese, “ Both of the buildings aren’t being used and are putting and additional burden on the parish, which leads you to say well do we use our resources for the building as opposed to ministries for people, so you have to make those choices.”…
