Erie Fire Dept. gets major upgrades under Mayor Schember

Erie Mayor Joe Schember emphasized the progress of the city’s fire department today, highlighting a range of improvements during his administration as he nears the end of his term.

Under Schember’s leadership, the Erie Fire Department has replaced aging engines and vehicles, upgraded six fire houses and initiated construction on a new public safety complex at the former Miller Brothers building. Additionally, the department has introduced an accelerant-detecting K9 to its investigation team.

Mayor Schember created the city’s first grant-writing team, which has successfully secured 35 grants totaling over $4 million to fund these developments. Chief Leonard Trott expressed optimism about these advancements, stating, “It takes a little bit of stress off of everybody, off the firefighters knowing that they have reliable equipment, off of our mechanical division for trying to keep everything running.”…
