Done deal — Erie City Council votes to transfer zoo ownership

Erie City Council unanimously voted to approve the transfer of ownership of the Erie Zoo from the city to ErieEvents.

The vote on December 23 comes after months of planning and public input, resulting in a resolution back in August to help keep the zoo on a solid financial footing.

The total transfer will include 96 acres of land, including the zoo. Zoo officials warned that if a new arrangement was not made, the Erie Zoo faced potential closure.
