Chautauqua County officials are urging residents to avoid travel as a powerful winter storm brings heavy snowfall, strong winds, and dangerous road conditions across the region.
A Travel Advisory is in effect for all of Chautauqua County from 3:00 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2025, through 7:00 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.
Storm Conditions
- Snowfall: 18–24 inches expected, with rates of 1–2 inches per hour and bursts up to 3 inches in lake-effect bands.
- Visibility: Near zero at times due to blowing and drifting snow.
- Wind Gusts: Up to 65 mph Monday, decreasing to 45 mph Tuesday.
- Warning: Winter Storm Severity Index at “Major” level, signaling dangerous to impossible travel conditions.
