Oil City Woman Convicted of Felony Animal Cruelty

ERIE, Pa. (EYT) — An Erie County jury returned a guilty verdict against an Oil City woman charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals and misdemeanor neglect. The conviction stems from the failure to provide necessary veterinary care to an injured mixed-breed dog in December 2022, according to a press release from the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.

The defendant, 49-year-old Jaime Leroux Smalley, of Oil City, was charged following an incident on December 27, 2022, in Harborcreek Township, Erie County. The Pennsylvania State Police filed the initial complaint on April 4, 2023.

According to the court docket, the jury convicted Smalley on January 9 of one count of aggravated cruelty to animals involving serious bodily injury or death.
