Film of the Week: Presque Isle Timing Association 1959

Lucky Drag City may sound like a sketchy bar on the wrong side of town, but it’s actually a drag strip located in Wattsburg, Pennsylvania. Where pray tell, the hell is Wattsburg, might you ask? With a population of just 352 inhabitants, this sleepy enclave south of Erie, PA (on the border of New York) is just a dot on the map, but it’s also been home of this humble drag strip since 1955. Initially called the Presque Isle Timing Association, it was named after the nearby eponymous State Park. It is rare to find early color footage from the track in this time period- No timing lights, no Armco barriers, just run-what-you-brung!

You can read more on the drag strip’s history via the HAMB, here.
