One person transported following Millcreek house fire Monday

One person was taken to the hospital on Monday after a fire broke out at a Millcreek Township home that sent one man to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Calls for that fire went out around 10:49 am for a house fire in the 4000 block of West 15th Street, leaving the home with what the Millcreek Township called substantial smoke damage.

Millcreek Township Fire Chief Michael Cliff said smoke damage in the home was so significant that the family living there had to be displaced, and that it was likely started by an electrical issue, prompting a warning to residents with more cold temperatures in the forecast.

“I think the biggest thing is, is realizing, especially with these upcoming cold temperatures, that people need to be very careful with their space heaters and make sure that their space heaters are not plugged into multiport adapters. Want to make sure it’s plugged directly into an outlet and you want to make sure the area around your space heater is clear as well,” he said. “Also, make sure you’re checking your smoke detector batteries.”…
