State police release more details on Thursday’s pile-up on I-90

(WJET/WFXP)– Pennsylvania State Police have released more information on the Interstate 90 westbound pile-up from last Thursday that left at least two people injured.

According to PSP Erie, traffic was already stopped due to a separate crash on January 15 around 4 p.m., just past the I-86 interchange, when the driver of a semi couldn’t stop in time, leading to a bigger pile-up.

This was the second crash to happen on I-90 westbound that day, the first of which happened around 1:40 pm, which required the westbound lane to be shut down and left a North East woman with serious injuries.

Police said the driver of the semi rear-ended another semi, which led to a domino-like crash, sending the trailer the struck semi was hauling into another trailer, then hit another semi, which then struck the back of a sedan.
