Major fire erupts in Corry deeming local manufacturing business a total loss

Corry, Pa (WJET/WFXP)– A massive fire engulfed Hensa STMP in Corry on Wednesday evening, resulting in the building being deemed a total loss. The fire, reported to have begun around 4:20 p.m., prompted a swift response from dozens of first responders from Erie, Warren and Chautauqua counties.

The fire produced thick, billowing smoke and flames that could be seen for several hours. The two-story building collapsed around an hour into the fire, leaving debris laying across nearby roads. One firefighter was taken to the hospital with a wrist injury. Two others were checked on scene for minor smoke inhalation.

Chris Young, deputy fire chief for the City of Corry, described the situation as a “pretty good size commercial fire” with many chemicals involved. While crews worked diligently, he acknowledged that they arrived to a significant fire that had already spread, stating, “a lot of smoke but crews did a fantastic job; but unfortunately the building was a total loss.”…
