PennDOT Reduces Speed Limits on Interstates in the Northwest Region

Due to the severity of the winter storm, PennDOT is temporarily reducing the speed limit on several roadways in the region.

PennDOT is urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel, but those who must head out will see speeds reduced to 45 mph on the following highways:

  • Interstate 79 from the West Virginia state line to Exit 166 (Route 6N. Edinboro) in Erie County.
  • Interstate 80 from the Ohio state line to Exit 242 (Route 339, Mifflinville/Mainville) in Columbia County.
  • The entire length of Interstate 376.

In addition, vehicle restrictions in accordance with Tier 4 of the commonwealth’s weather event vehicle restriction plan went into place at midnight on all interstates in Pennsylvania, including I-79, I-80, I-86, I-90, and I-376 in the northwest region.

On roadways with Tier 4 restrictions in place, no commercial vehicles are permitted. Additionally, all school buses, commercial buses, motor coaches, motorcycles, RVs/motorhomes, and passenger vehicles (cars, SUVs, pickup trucks, etc.) towing trailers are not permitted on affected roadways while restrictions are in place…
