The continued cold temperatures and snow led to the cancellation of many events and closures of schools, on Monday, some essential businesses even canceled their services for the day.
Officials at both Meals on Wheels and the Second Harvest Food Bank said it’s not an easy call to make because they know how vital these services are, but they have to think of their volunteers and employees in these harsh conditions.
Hundreds of people in Erie rely on food assistance from organizations like Second Harvest Food Bank and Meals on Wheels, but sometimes, Mother Nature puts a pause on their services, which leads to the cancellation of events.
Greg Hall, the CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank explained, “It’s one of the hardest things for us and our team has to do. Our team gets together and it’s a very difficult decision because we know how much people rely on this for food. We do a couple different things. We try to work with a neighbor and maybe get them to a food resource that’s indoor at the moment and we always have emergency services if folks are struggling.”…
