Julius closed indefinitely due to weather-related water damage

Julius, a fine-dining Mexican-themed restaurant housed in the former Maennerchor building at 1607 State St., will be closed indefinitely after a sprinkler pipe burst. Water leaked down from the roof and damaged every floor in between, including the entrance, according to owner Julio Reyes.

Reyes posted on Facebook Jan. 28 that wind caused damage to a “roof vent on the east side of the building,” allowing snow and water to enter.

“The extreme cold that followed caused a sprinkler pipe to burst, leading to significant damage at the entrance, second floor, first floor, and basement,” Reyes said in his post, adding that at the time of the incident, “Temperatures were in the single digits, with wind chills dropping to -25 degrees.”…
