Report Shows Sales Tax Collections Grew 4.5% Statewide in 2025

Local government sales tax collections in across New York in 2025 grew by 4.5% from the previous year, according to a report released by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli this week. DiNapoli says the amount of sales taxes collected during the calendar year totaled $24.4 billion, adding that the past year’s growth was higher than the 3.8% average annual growth rate from 2010-2019, following the Great Recession and before COVID-19.
