City council works to make Erie a ‘Welcoming City’

Erie City Council wants Erie to officially be named a “Welcoming City,” but there’s apparently some work that needs to be done.

Council passed an ordinance on Wednesday night, which outlines the city’s goal to win and maintain “Welcoming City” status.

According to the organization Welcoming America, a welcoming city is a community with policies and programs ensuring immigrants, refugees and all residents can fully participate in civic, social, and economic life.

Council president Tyler Titus said Erie’s most recent application only got one out of five stars, and even that is under review.
