North East woman pleads guilty to embezzling funds for family business

(WJET/WFXP)– The North East woman accused of stealing money from a local company to support her family business has pleaded guilty.

According to online court documents, 44-year-old Krista Stempka pleaded guilty before Judge John Mead at her hearing on March 2, just over a month before her trial was set to begin.

Stempka was accused by the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office of transferring money from Advanced Welding Technologies, where she managed company finances, to Stempka Cellars, the parent company of Driftwood Wine Cellars in North East.

As a result, the AG’s Office said Advanced Welding Technologies lost about $58,000 and was fired after the owners discovered the money transfers…
