A summertime attraction in Girard goes from seed to still for a tasting of a locally sourced spirit.
The Hagen History Center set the table for the unveiling of the “Sonshine” spirit made from the sunflower field grown in Girard last summer.

The drink, created by the Wild’s Sonshine Factory based out of Kane, Pennsylvania, is an earthy-flavored sunflower rum. It debuted on Wednesday night to rave reviews from the dozens on hand.
Distiller Dan Conklin said the main idea for the product is based on keeping the entire process close to home.
