Warren kidnapper and prison escapee sentenced in Chautauqua homicide

MAYVILLE, NY — Michael C. Burham’s run from the law, authorities say, began when he was wanted in Jamestown, New York, on charges of raping a woman and for questioning in the woman’s death.

The run, which played out from mid-spring through mid-summer 2023, would involve the kidnapping of a Warren County couple, his apprehension in a South Carolina national forest, a daring escape from the Warren County Prison and his eventual arrest northwest of Warren, thanks to a barking dog and a citizen’s call.

The criminal cases that followed Burham’s accused actions during that time officially wrapped up March 2, when the 37-year-old, who had lived in Chautauqua and Warren counties, was sentenced in the death of the Jamestown woman…
