Tornado watch issued for 3 Upstate New York counties

A tornado watch is in effect for Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Chautauqua Counties until 8 p.m. tonight as weather conditions could lead to severe storms and tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service will issue an alert when a tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar.

If a tornado warning is issued, residents should immediately take shelter in a substantial structure. Those without nearby shelter should lie flat in a ditch or low spot with hands shielding their head…
