Authorities continue to investigate human remains discovered in Millcreek on March 21, with forensic experts playing a key role in uncovering answers.
Due to the condition of the remains, the forensics department at Mercyhurst University was called in to assist. The team helps with analyzing human remains and supporting law enforcement in these kinds of cases.
For more than 30 years, Mercyhurst University’s forensic experts have contributed to investigations by determining whether remains are human, identifying individuals, and helping establish cause and manner of death.
“If the remains are confirmed to be human, we respond to the scene and conduct a full skeletal analysis,” said Joe Adserias-Garriga, an Associate Professor and the Director of the University’s Applied Forensics Master’s Program. “If we identify signs of trauma, we examine those closely and include our interpretations in a detailed report.”…
