An unusually dry and windy mid-fall in 2024 helped fuel a spate of wildfires throughout the Erie region.
One of those fires burned and smoldered for days in a wooded area along Tannery Road in Girard Township. It would burn about 10 acres in an area featuring a steep ravine with what officials said had 60- to 80-foot drops, and it destroyed two outbuildings and several pieces of equipment on a resident’s property while also threatening a home, according to investigators.
