Softball Drops Heavy-Hitting Series Finale to Stonehill

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst softball team hosted Stonehill for their series finale this morning. The two sides split yesterday, with loads of hits in each game. Today, there were a combined 23 hits. The Lakers put up a fight, but Stonehill’s nine-run inning proved to be too much as they pulled away with a 12-6 win.

Stonehill (6-24, 3-6 NEC) took an early lead in the first inning with a sacrifice fly. Mercyhurst (4-20, 3-6 NEC) had two runners on base early on. Karlie Kasten and Braylynn Kelly both walked. The team could not bring them in, leaving them on base.

The second inning saw a flurry of scoring from both teams. Stonehill added nine runs, highlighted by several doubles. The Lakers responded with five runs in their half, initiated by an RBI double from Alexandra Acosta-Reyes and a three-RBI double by Bailey Cannon. Kelly also contributed with an RBI double. The score was now 10-5 as MU tried to mount a comeback…
