New initiative helps older adults maintain heating costs after HEAP cuts

LAKEWOOD, N.Y. — Diane Allison-Church, 71, of Lakewood, plays the piano, but that isn’t the only thing she and her husband keep in tune around the house.

“Well, our furnace is 36 years old now. It was installed in January 1990,” said Allison-Church.

Allison-Church says little has been done to maintain the furnace over the last 15 years, so they decided to have it serviced through Chautauqua County’s Office for Aging Services Warm and Well at Home initiative…
