Gas Prices Move Slightly as Memorial Day Nears, County Sees Bigger Jump

Travelers who are preparing to hit the road for the Memorial Day period will see the highest average prices at the gas pump for that holiday in four years. According to AAA, the national and statewide averages have moved slightly over the past week. The nationwide average price per gallon went down by a fraction of a cent and is currently $4.52. New York’s average went up by just over two cents to $4.61. Meanwhile, Chautauqua County saw its average jump by more than 14 cents to $4.63. One year ago, the national and state averages were $3.18 and $3.13, respectively.

As of Monday morning, oil is trading between $106 and $111 per barrel, compared to $97 and $104 a week ago. Travelers are preparing to hit the road in record numbers this week as the national average price at the pump is sitting in the same range as it was in 2022…
