Seven Vernonia Loggers competed at the State Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene on May 28-29, with several athletes taking part in more than one event.
“Coming into the year, we knew it would be a young group,” said Logger head coach John Roady. “We lost a lot of talent from last year. But I’m really proud of what we accomplished.”
Senior Elam Cieloha was the top performer for the Loggers, competing in three individual events. Cieloha placed 3rd in the high jump after clearing 5’11.5”. He followed that with a 7th place finish in the triple jump (38’9.75”), and jumped 19’1.25” in the long jump which placed him 14th. “Elam was our MVP,” Roady said. “We had several athletes who were in that conversation, but at State Elam’s performance earned him that recognition.”…
