The city of Eugene is building a new sidewalk next to the Eugene Federal Building.
Construction on the new sidewalk, which will cost the city $50,000, is set to begin June 9 near the southeast corner of Sixth Avenue and Pearl Street. The east lane of Pearl Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues will be closed intermittently during construction, which is expected to last until about June 23.
In late April, the federal government erected a fence around the building in response to regular protests outside, including one that ended with tear gas and Eugene Police Department declaring a riot.
