Oregon State Hospital gets fifth superintendent in three years

State officials announced Wednesday that they have named a new superintendent to lead the beleaguered Oregon State Hospital, which has faced significant leadership turnover and cultural and operational issues in recent years.

Sean Murphy, a longtime healthcare administrator who most recently served as the deputy assistant secretary for the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, will step into the new role on July 13, Oregon Health Authority director Sejal Hathi announced Wednesday.

“My expectations for the next phase of OSH leadership are clear,” Hathi told lawmakers in a hearing Wednesday afternoon. “The state hospital must become consistently safe, transparent, accountable, disciplined and high functioning.”…
