Lane County deputies identify Newport man in Snapchat child exploitation probe

Lane County detectives investigating the online exploitation of a local child through Snapchat have identified and arrested a 19-year-old Newport man, according to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office said detectives with its Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force began the investigation in February 2026. On July 1, investigators identified the suspect as Diego Rojas-Hernandez, 19, of Newport.

Because Rojas-Hernandez lives outside Lane County, the sheriff’s office requested help from the Oregon State Police. Later that same day, Oregon State Police detectives arrested Rojas-Hernandez on charges of luring a minor and online sexual corruption in the second degree. He was lodged at the Lincoln County Jail…
