PLEASANT HILL, Ore. – Relay for Life returned to Pleasant Hill High School, bringing the community together to honor survivors, remember loved ones and raise money for the fight against cancer.
The event featured themed relay laps, family activities and the Luminaria ceremony, where candlelit bags lined the track to honor those lost to cancer and those still fighting. Among those sharing their story was a local survivor whose diagnosis earned her the nickname “medical unicorn.”
“I have a rare form of multiple myeloma, that was caused by a genetic mutated gene which then caused a secondary disease called AL amyloidosis, most of the time that attacks kidneys, it’s very rare as well but mine attacked my heart, also my lung, and we believe it attacked part of my intestines,” Wendy Loper said…
