This week, we have the Lane County Fair, two concerts at the Cuthbert, indie excellence coming to WOW Hall (unfortunately, Sleater-Kinney is sold out this Saturday, but you’re in luck next week) and more.

Roller skating at Farmers Market Pavilion
Are you free tonight? Do you want to get roller skating? The monthly pop-up roller skating at the Farmers Market Pavilion from Eugene Roller Village is back for July, if you’re interested in strapping on a pair of skates and grooving your Thursday evening away.
- When: 6 to 9 p.m. tonight, Thursday, July 23
- Where: Farmers Market Pavilion, 85 E. Eighth Ave., Eugene
- How much: $10 entry fee, and a sliding scale for rental skates, from $5 to $10
Lane County Fair concerts
The Lane County Fair is this week (here’s a what-to-know guide about the fair overall) and includes concerts each night: country singer-songwriter Ned LeDoux; Rome from Sublime with Rome; Blue Öyster Cult of “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” fame; country singer-songwriter Justin Moore; and Christian rapper Lecrae — if you’re interested in snagging a ticket to any of those shows.
- When: There is a different concert for each night of the Lane County Fair, so check specific showtimes.
- Where: Lane Events Center, 796 W. 13th Ave., Eugene
- How much: Prices range for concerts, and also include admission to the fair.
The String Cheese Incident at the Cuthbert
Veteran jam band The String Cheese Incident rolls into the Cuthbert Amphitheater this week for the band’s “Just Keep Spinning Tour,” which promises to be “a welcoming space to dance it out, drift away, connect with your community, or take a small step toward something bigger.” That all sounds lovely. But does anyone actually know what the eponymous string cheese incident was?
- When: 7 p.m. Friday, July 24.
- Where: Cuthbert Amphitheater, 601 Day Island Road, in Eugene’s Alton Baker Park
- How much: Tickets are available online and start at $69.75.
Whiteaker Community Market Pride
This annual Pride event from the Whiteaker Community Market gives Eugene another chance to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride outside of June, and will feature live music, a drag show, a photo opportunity under a rainbow balloon arch, free face painting for children and more. Children also receive $5 in “Market Bucks” for free, to spend with different market vendors.
- When: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 26
- Where: Scobert Gardens Park, 1180 W. Fourth Ave., Eugene
- How much: Free
Symphony in the Park
It’s late July, which means it’s time for Eugene Symphony’s annual free concert for the public at the Cuthbert Amphitheater. Music director Alex Prior will conduct an evening of both symphony classics and cinematic music, and an “instrument petting zoo” will let children interact with some of the instruments the symphony musicians play.
The event is also a “food-raiser” for Food for Lane County, and attendees are invited to bring nonperishable canned items to the concert to donate.
- When: Gates open at 7 p.m.; concert begins at 8 p.m. Sunday, July 26
- Where: Cuthbert Amphitheater, 601 Day Island Road, in Eugene’s Alton Baker Park
- How much: The concert is free, but tickets are required. Tickets can be reserved online and will also be available at the box office on the day of the concert.
Of Montreal at WOW Hall
They may be of Montreal, but next week they’ll be in Eugene. (I will see myself out.) The indie pop band is stopping at the WOW Hall on a tour supporting their latest album “Aethermead,” their 20th. (I’m not the biggest fan of of Montreal, but “It’s Different for Girls” and the acoustic version of “First Time High” are still recurring presences in my playlist.)
