Eugene firefighters respond to reported fire on United Boeing 737-8 at airport

EUGENE, Ore. — Eugene Springfield Fire crews responded to a reported aircraft fire at Eugene Airport just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, after being alerted to a possible fire in the rear stabilizer of a United Airlines Boeing 737-8.

Eugene Springfield Fire said the plane was occupied only by airline cleaning staff at the time of the report, and the workers self-evacuated before fire crews arrived.

A full aircraft emergency response was dispatched. Firefighters used Tower 2’s elevated aerial platform to inspect the aircraft’s rear stabilizer, but found no visible signs of fire…
