‘Everyone is safe’ after widepread phone alert

An emergency alert early Friday, Aug. 28, that reached as far as Florence warning of police activity in a west Eugene neighborhood was sent in relation to SWAT police activity, a Eugene police spokesperson said.

“The suspect is in custody. Everyone is safe and the investigation is ongoing,” EPD spokesperson Chelsea Deffenbacher said in a text message shortly after 2:30 a.m.

Multiple alerts went to cell phones of people in Eugene and elsewhere in Lane County asking residents to avoid the area of Elmira Road and Archie Street in Eugene’s Danebo neighborhood…
