EUGENE, Ore. — Phase one of construction on the Patterson Street Safety Pilot Project is under way as of Monday, City of Eugene officials said. The pilot will test a new lane configuration on Patterson between 18th Avenue and 24th Avenue using pavement striping and flexible bollards.
The west travel lane will be removed to add a bicycle lane and bus lane/parking lane, which will improve safety by slowing down traffic and increasing the visibility of people crossing the street on foot and by bike, the city said.
“Volume data showed that traffic will still flow smoothly with one southbound vehicle lane along the four-block section. Construction of phase one includes removing existing striping and restriping the new bike lane, bus lane/parking lane, and single travel lane,” the city stated…
