EUGENE, Ore. – Willamette High School social studies teacher Nate Jackson was named an Oregon Lottery Regional Teacher of the Year on Wednesday.
Jackson has been teaching since 2019 and currently teaches American studies and Black studies at Willamette High School. He has played an important role in supporting and organizing the school’s Black Student Union and creating opportunities for students to explore history, culture and possibilities beyond their own community.
That work has included helping coordinate trips for Black Student Union students to the Washington, D.C., area. Students have had the opportunity to visit Historically Black Colleges and Universities and experience places and institutions connected to what they are learning in school…
