Man accused of ‘pistol-whipping’ homeless person in downtown Eugene

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A man is facing charges after police said he was part of a group assaulting multiple homeless people in downtown Eugene on Friday.

Jairo Jesus Hernandez-Avila, 22, was arrested following a “pistol-whipping” incident in the area of East 10th Avenue and Oak Alley.

Just before 2:30 a.m., Eugene police received a report that a group of men was assaulting someone at the stairs by the elevator at the Overpark.

When police arrived, they found a victim with a “large injury to the back of his head.” They also found a gun in a nearby dumpster…
