SALEM, Ore. — Oregon fire officials are saying an investment into keeping communities safe from wildfires has paid major dividends all over the state. Back in 2022, the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office opened applications for an $18 million grant that would distribute funds to local governments, special districts, fire service agencies, and non-governmental organizations, as well as $2.6 million in strategic investments. Those groups used the funds for wildfire risk reduction projects, equipment, and staff to keep communities safe from fire. Funds from the grant went all over Oregon for a wide variety of projects intended to reduce wildfire risk. Funding for the grant came from 2021’s Senate Bill 762.
