A missing 80-year-old Culp Creek man, Donald Ray Stone, 80, was found dead Monday in heavy brush 12 miles up Layng Creek Road, according to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.
Stone, who was described as having Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, had last been seen on Jan. 11 and was believed to have been driving from Cottage Grove to his home on Row River Road when he went missing.
Search and rescue teams located Stone’s 2000 Toyota Tundra pickup truck on Saturday after days of sawing through miles of downed timber on Layng Creek Road, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
Once his truck was found, evidence around the scene indicated his vehicle became stuck and he continued on foot. He appeared to have “succumbed to the elements” and his death did not appear suspicious, according to the sheriff’s office.
