EUGENE, Ore. – The emergency preparedness team “Ready Northwest Eugene” is holding a seismic safety presentation on January 30 about the city’s bridges and overpasses. In case of an earthquake disaster, bridges and overpasses can fail, especially if they’re not engineered to specifically withstand a quake. That would affect people’s ability to evacuate and receive aid. Ready Northwest Eugene is holding a presentation where they will speak about the current seismic resilience of Eugene bridges and overpasses, as well as any plans to seismically retrofit them. They said the meeting would be a great opportunity to ask emergency preparedness questions related to the topic.
