The Springfield City Council voted unanimously on Monday to send $20 million of street preservation projects to voters on the May 21, 2024 ballot. If voters approve the bond, councilors plan to spend the money to fix six streets, one in each ward:
- Harlow Road: I-5 to parkway roundabout, $6.85 million (Ward 1)
- G Street: 10th to 23rd Street, $4.1 million (Ward 3)
- 58th Street: Main Street to Thurston roundabout, $2.95 million (Ward 6)
- Daisy Street: South 51st Place to Bob Straub Parkway, $2.9 million (Ward 5)
- 36th Street: Main Street to Commercial Avenue. $2.5 million (Ward 4)
- Aspen Street: Tamarack Street to Centennial Boulevard $700,000 (Ward 2)
Project costs include preliminary engineering, ADA upgrades, right-of-way impacts and construction.
The proposed bond would be double the cost of the expiring one voters passed in 2018. If passed, it would charge taxes of 74 cents per $1,000 of assessed value, which is lower than market value. An average Springfield homeowner would pay $135 per year for the road repairs.
