Frats Against Food Waste program puts wasted food to good use

EUGENE, Ore. – A Eugene fraternity has found a way to put wasted food to good use with a new program known as Frats Against Food Waste. The chef at Alpha Sigma Phi takes all the unused food from the week, heats it up, and then members of the fraternity drop it off at various homeless shelters as well as to homeless people living on the streets. After last month’s ice storm, the fraternity even passed out food to people in tents. One of the program’s co-founders said that more than $444 billion dollars of food is wasted annually, which represents about one-eighth of all meals nationwide. Jackson Gurule and Sammy Aronoff founded Frats Against Food Waste because there’s a lot of food that gets wasted.
